Uses a combination of medication, counseling, and behavioral therapy to treat opioid addiction.
Medications in the MAT:
Buprenorphine; treat opioid dependency that is permitted to be prescribed or dispensed in physician offices, significantly increasing treatment access.
Methadone; lessens the painful symptoms of opiate withdrawal.
Naltrexone; binds and blocks opioid receptors, and is reported to reduce opioid cravings. There is no abuse and diversion potential with naltrexone.
